Seedling Time

Bitter Melon or Bitter Gourd is grows fast in summer. So the best time to plant Bitter Melon is starting of summer season. If you plant early for good market price, the result will not be fruitful. Because Bitter Melon is not perform well in cool season.

Pot Selection

It is better to take a large or medium size pot for grow Bitter Melon, so you can take a 50 liter drum or half of 50 liter drum. Make a hole in the bottom of the drum.

Soil Mix

I will say soil preparation for half drum. Bitter Melon grows in almost all types of soil but loamy soil is best for Bitter Melon. So we will take 2 parts of soil, 1 part of compost, 25g TSP and 25g potash. Now we will mix them and fulfill the pot and give it water. After 10 to 12 days, dig up the soil a little then after 2-5 days plant seeds or seedlings.

Preparing Seeds

Seeds should be soaked water for 24 hours before planting. Then plant the seed in 1 inch deep and water them. You can plant 5-6 seeds in half drum of tub.

Care

When the plants grows a little then you have to arrange scaffolding well. Clean the weeds and loosen the soil regularly. When the seedlings are 1 month old then give 20g TSP and when the plants are come in production then give rotten mustard oil cake water every 15 to 20 days.

Diseases And Cure

Bitter Melon affected by some various diseases such as Flies, Pumpkin Beetles, Powdery Mildew and viral Mosaic diseases.

To avoid these diseases the garden should always clean and tidy. Use Pheromone Trap in the garden for Flies. And use pesticides regularly for other diseases.
